Building Ovens for Refugee Women

Hands-On! Hands-Up!

Ovens of Hope empowers women in Uganda’s refugee settlements to become disciple-makers and entrepreneurs, equipping them with the skills to bake, sell, and manage a bakery business. It begins with constructing mud and brick ovens, providing a foundation for women to work, earn an income, and develop financial and leadership skills to support their families, mentor others, and share the Gospel.

Through a hands-on, hands-up approach, women gain real-world experience in business operations, sales, and financial management while being mentored and discipled. As they grow in skill and confidence, they help expand the mission—building more ovens, employing more women, and strengthening discipleship in their communities.

How It Works

It starts with an oven—but leads to lasting change.
Through our partnership with Yenet in Uganda, we equip women to bake, budget, and run their own businesses—building skills for a sustainable future.

As the business thrives, profits are reinvested into the women’s ministry—funding more ovens, training more women, and expanding the network of entrepreneurial disciple-makers. Each success fuels Gospel-centered transformation, creating a ripple effect of hope and opportunity—one oven, one woman at a time. It starts with an oven—but leads to so much more.

I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.

The women featured on this website are real women living in Uganda's refugee settlements—mothers, daughters, sisters, and friends. They embody dreams, strength, and resilience. When we look closer, we find pieces of their stories in ours—and ours in theirs.

Start with One

We start with one oven because it is the foundation for lasting change. By testing, refining, and perfecting our approach before expanding, we create a sustainable and scalable model that empowers women and transforms communities.

  • Proven Model – Refine training, baking, market distribution, and sales strategies

  • Sustainability – The first oven must operate efficiently and profitably

  • Scalability – Once thriving, we will build additional ovens
